Social Media Giving Newspapers a Run for Their Money


In the past few years we have seen an increase in news stories being read about on Facebook, Twitter and other social media sources. Traditional newspapers are becoming more and more irrelevant when it comes to breaking news stories around the world.

From the US Navy Seals raid on Osama Bin Laden’s compound to Whitney Houston’s death, most people will have become aware of these events by seeing peoples reactions and posts on Twitter or Facebook, not by reading it in the morning paper.

However, there are pitfalls to getting your news updates straight from the social media universe,  50% of news consumers have received “breaking news” via social media, only to find out later it was false information or a hoax.
